Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter, announced the launch of xAI on Wednesday.

The purpose of xAI is to "understand the true nature of the universe."

On Friday, Musk and his colleagues will provide more details at a live Twitter Spaces chat.

The xAI team has members who have contributed to DeepMind's AlphaCode and OpenAI's GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 chatbots, among other projects.

Musk appears to be putting xAI in a position to compete with businesses such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.

In a recorded interview, Musk discussed his ideas for a new AI tool named "TruthGPT" in detail.

Dan Hendrycks, the executive director of the Center for AI Safety, will serve as one of the startup's advisors.

xAI announces its split from X Corp. on its website and states that it will "work closely with X (Twitter), Tesla, and other companies to make progress towards our mission."
