Sales of electric vehicles just reached a record high, but growth is still accelerating.

Growth spikes might eventually involve more uphill battles, suggests a new study.

In the U.S., new full battery-electric car sales from April through June totaled close to 300,000.

It was a record for any quarter and up 48.4% from the same time last year.

In addition, EV market share in the U.S. increased to 7.2% from 5.7% a year earlier.down from the year's high of 7.3% in the first three months.  

an Auto Trader survey of Google searches, Tesla is the most sought-after automobile brand in the world. However, its percentage of EV sales is dwindling.

The market share of Tesla dropped below 60% for the first time, but Chevrolet, the country's No. 2 EV seller, is a distant second.
