U.S. car safety authorities are focusing on the modifications Tesla has made to Autopilot.

 including how it ensures that drivers are paying attention as well as how it finds and handles items.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requested specifics regarding the modifications made to each system version.

Dates and thorough descriptions are included.

Since August 2021, the organisation has been looking into crashes involving Teslas that were equipped with the technology.

 Since 2016, investigators have dispatched teams to look into more than 30 collisions that have resulted in at least 14 fatalities.

By July 19, Tesla must answer to the request or risk civil fines.

It requests an update on a previous response from Sept. 19 of last year from the manufacturer of electric vehicles.
